With Andy Murray having just won Wimbledon for the second time, we're excited to see the impact of that success on TFF parks on our July report. But for now, we're taking a look back at June and despite some heavy rain and a number of cancelled sessions, we've been pleased with the turn out for TFF sessions which saw a total of 2695 attendances throughout June which were made up of 1525 individual players of which 510 of those had their first experience of tennis at their park site.

TFF sites of note in June consisted of Lampton Park (Hounslow), Hednesford Park (Cannock), Pype Hayes Park (Birmingham) and Birkenhead Park (Wirral) who all saw attendances in excess of 170 across the month with Lampton Park hitting a very impressive 282. However, for the third consecutive month we've had a different TFF site topping all attendance tables and it was the turn of Sefton Park in Liverpool with a table topping 310 attendances of TFF sessions that were made up from 180 individual attendees of which 76 of those tried tennis at Sefton Park for the first time. David Simms (Head Coach), Stephanie Anderson (Assistant Coach), Danny Woodworth (volunteer) and Sue Critchley (volunteer) were delivering TFF to an average of 78 attendees per week throughout June. We extend our congratulations to Sefton Park and their team for an incredible result.

Furthermore, Sefton Park is a real multicultural community success story with attendances from 38 different nationalities including 21 European countries plus others as diverse as Korea, Ecuador, Canada, Chile and Nigeria!

 

Sefton Park TFF takes place in Liverpool's largest park and is a partnership between Mersey Bowmen Tennis Club (who are based in the park), Liverpool Tennis Foundation and Liverpool City Council.

 

As well as generating a significant membership boost to Mersey Bowmen Tennis Club (one of the oldest tennis clubs in the world), the sessions have helped established LTA promoted Tennis Tuesdays and Advantage Tennis Training midweek sessions.

 

David Simms said, "The response to the Tennis for Free programme has been unbelievable. We have an amazing time delivering the sessions each week and there is both a tremendous cultural diversity and group dynamic amongst the players. Both Mersey Bowmen and Tennis for Free have shown fantastic support and we have a great team of coaches and helpers. Liverpool City Council have also been terrifically supportive not least in providing use of 3 additional newly resurfaced courts. Onwards and upwards!".
