TFF End of Year Awards 2018
It's that time of year again when we reflect on the great work of our TFF sites and shortlist and reward those outstanding ones. We are hugely appreciative of the great work so many different people do for Tennis For Free in creating fantastic tennis communities across the UK. We look forward to working with you again in 2019.
The WINNERS of these awards (chosen by the trustees of TFF) will be announced on New Years Day. Please take a look at the nominations below.
PLEASE NOTE, for 'Player of the Year' and 'Volunteer of the Year' we're going to be making these awards based on your nominations and referrals. Please email support@tennisforfree.com by 20th January with a player or volunteer who you feel is worthy of this award and the reasons why.
TFF END OF YEAR AWARDS
SITE OF THE YEAR
HEDNESFORD PARK (South Staffordshire)
TFF's top stats performer for 'Attendances' is a clear contender for TFF Site of the Year having brought in a table topping 1861 attendances and second in the table for attendees with 481. With a GP referral scheme, a police inclusion scheme all linked into tennis at the park, Hendesford Park is one of TFF's model sites.
MANOR PARK (Aldershot)
TFF’s original site (launched in 2003) is still going very strong and is TFF’s best example of how community groups get stronger and stronger. Run entirely by the local community, the site self fundraises for its equipment and lead coach with all other deliverers offering their time voluntary. If all that wasn't enough for a nomination of TFF Site of the Year, Manor Park featured 7th in TFF's League Table of Attendances having achieved 1437 attendances at TFF sessions in 2018.
JOSEPH HOOD RECREATION GROUND (Morden)
TFF's second site (launched in 2003) sits alongside Manor Park as the oldest TFF sites and are going as strong as ever. Joseph Hood have featured in the top 7 in all stats categories with 1481 attendances from 302 attendees of which 235 were new to tennis in 2018. For a site now 15 years old competing with the very best of TFF's new sites, shows that the rock solid community at Joseph Hood Recreation Ground are warmly welcoming the new era of players.
ST MARY'S PARK (Bury/Prestwich) - WINNER
2018 has been a great year for St Mary's Park. Top of the table for TFF session individual attendees (510), also top for the most new players introduced to TFF tennis (395) and third for cumulative attendances (1577), the impact the TFF sessions are having in the Bury/Prestwich area is clear to be seen. Spearheaded by Paul Jepson (winner of TFF Coach of the Year in 2017), the scheme has quickly made a big impact since launching mid 2017.
COACH OF THE YEAR - Nominations
CAROLINE BAGUANDAS - WINNER
Caroline has been the lead coach at TFF's Priory Park scheme in North London since 2015 and has committed her Saturday mornings ongoing since that time. The scheme at Priory Park has always been a high performer but this year, Priory Park have featured in the top 6 in all stats categories.
PAUL JEPSON
Paul has spearheaded one of the largest attendance bases any TFF sites has seen in just a few months of operation. With a total of 273 enrolled players creating a total of 445 attendances from an October launch has firmly cemented Paul’s nomination of Coach of the Year.
DAVID SIMMS
David has headed up Sefton Park TFF since 2014 and committed his time to bringing in new tennis players from around the Liverpool to Sefton Park ever since. The early years of Sefton Park saw unprecedented stats and Sefton Park is back again as a top performer averaging the most weekly TFF attendances of any site with an average total of 44 attendees per week at the session.
THE PERRIN BROTHERS
As identical twins, it can be hard to distinguish between Chris and James who head up TFF's Hednesford Park site. It's even harder to single out one or the other for TFF's Coach of the Year award as both do an incredible job and largely job share the role of lead coach at their site. One fact that certainly is distinguishable is their spearheading of a scheme that won Site of the Year in 2017 and is back again at the end of 2018 with the most individual attendances of any site, totalling a very impressive 1861 attendances - which is more than any other site this year.
VOLUNTEER OF THE YEAR
Simon Maskell from Sefton park TFF.
Simon has been volunteering for around 4 years and also brings the rest of his family to the sessions. He's attended nearly every session for the full year and also volunteers his time at nearby linked club called Palmaston Tennis Club.
PLAYER OF THE YEAR
TFF's Player of the Year is Tom Hale from TFF's Joseph Hood Recreation Ground
Tom is 11yrs old and has been playing regularly at the site for the last 5 years. He's almost always frst to arrive and has improved his level so much so that even at just 11 years of age is competing in the Improvers+ adults group.
